Greater Houston Installation, repair and maintenance — 24/7 dispatch, every major brand. (281) 997-9110
About Generator Industries

One shop. One crew. One phone number that a person answers.

We’ve been putting standby generators on Houston homes and businesses for over fifteen years, from a single shop on the south side. Not a franchise, not a call centre, not a lead broker who sells your details to whoever bids highest.

What we are

An electrical contractor that specialises in generators.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. A generator install is mostly electrical work — a load calculation, a transfer switch, a service connection, sometimes a panel. Plenty of companies sell the machine and subcontract the part that actually keeps you safe.

We hold the electrical licence ourselves. TECL #31315. Our own licensed electricians do the wiring, we pull whatever permits apply, and we meet the inspector. Nobody hands you a phone number and wishes you luck.

How it started

I didn’t choose generators. A boat did.

My father was an electrician, and I spent most of my childhood on jobs with him. That is where I learned the trade — in the field, not in a classroom. I took an electrical course at Houston Community College in the early 1980s planning to do exactly what he did.

Then I finished, and Houston was deep in a recession. There was no electrician work to be had. I had spent years building and rebuilding engines, so I took a job at Caterpillar in an engine shop instead. One day I was sent out on a field call to a boat with a generator down. My boss knew about my electrical background and asked whether I would take a look. I found the fault and got it running.

That was the moment it clicked. A generator is an engine and an electrical system, and I did not have to choose between the two. I have been in power generation ever since — more than four decades now. It is why we do not treat generators as a sideline to electrical work. It is the trade I came up in, and it is what this company was built to do.

Why it matters on your job

Most generator problems are not engine problems or electrical problems. They sit exactly on the line between the two — a controller reading a sensor wrong, a transfer arrangement dropping a load the engine could have carried.

A company that is really an engine shop misses half of it. So does one that is really an electrical contractor. We were built to cover both, because that is how the founder learned it.

Why people pick us

Four things that are genuinely different.

Licence

Electricians, not just installers

The electrical work is done by our own licensed people under TECL #31315. On a lot of generator jobs that part gets subcontracted to whoever is cheapest that week, and you find out when something fails.

Coverage

We service what we didn’t install

A large share of our service work is on other companies’ units — including installers who’ve gone quiet or gone under. Bring us a machine with a fault code and we’ll read it, whoever put it in.

Paperwork

The permit is in our name

Where a permit applies we pull it, we schedule the inspection and we attend it. You never get a call asking you to explain your own installation to an inspector.

Honesty

We’ll tell you not to buy

If a unit is past economic repair we say so instead of selling a service plan on a machine that won’t make the next season. If a smaller generator with load management does the job, we’ll price both.

A Kohler standby generator installed by Generator Industries
Kohler

Factory-certified for both. Most dealers are certified for one.

Being certified by Generac and Kohler means two things for you. We can do warranty work on either, so a unit in warranty gets handled by us and we file the claim. And when we recommend one over the other, it isn’t because it’s the only line we carry.

Where we work from

Mosley Road, near BW8 — and that matters in August.

On an ordinary Tuesday, where a contractor parks its trucks is irrelevant. In the week after a named storm it’s the whole thing. Drive time is the constraint on everybody, and being local to Houston rather than dispatched from out of state is the difference between the same day and next week.

We cover Greater Houston — Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston and Montgomery counties, and the cities inside them.

★★★★★ Hurricane Beryl

“During Hurricane Beryl, I stayed with my grandma who had a generator installed by Generator Industries… our power was out for a week. She was the only one who had power in our family and the generator worked phenomenally! … the lights went out for maybe 10 seconds before the generator kicked on.”
